Need some help expressing thankfulness?
Let the Psalms guide your heart to gratitude whether you are in a place of awe, despair or gratefulness. The ancient words will give you words for today.
Begin with any of these Psalms listed below. Read the whole psalm; pray the words. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to add your own verses to continue the story of God’s wonders in your life.
Psalm 105 – Gratitude in times of awe. “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done….Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles…”
Psalm 106 – Thankfulness in response to forgetfulness and repentance. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare his praise?”
Psalm 107 – Gratitude in suffering and distress. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. ..Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things…They cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress…”
Psalm 116 – Thankfulness in times of trouble, sorrow and affliction. “I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. ..I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord.”
Psalm 118 – Thankfulness in times of anguish. ”In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free…I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me…You are my God, and I will give you thanks.”
May you find words of gratitude no matter where you are in your journey this year.
Happy giving thanks!
